In the Galapagos archipelago
exist two distinct species of iguana, the land and
marine iguanas, both having the same ancestor, the common
Green Iguana found on the Pacific coastal regions of the
mainland. From there they are believed to have reached the isles
by floating on vegetation rafts. Settling on islands which
were very different to their known habitat on the continent, they
survived by adapting to the new environment.
