Llamas once dominated the
Andes mountains grazing in the high altitude paramo grass
regions. With the arrival of humans however they got
domesticated in order to take advantage of their precious
wool and being used as pack animals. Unfortunately they
also got decimated by hunting and nowadays no more
wild herds roam the Andean Cordilleras with the exception of
vicuñas which were introduced again around the dry paramo area
of Chimborazo.
