Those butterflies were taken on a daytrip to Maquipucuna, a private cloudforest reserve at the end of February of 2005. It lies between 1500m to 2000m in the northwestern cordilleras of Ecuador, some 2 hours drive from Quito and boasts of secondary and primary cloud forests.
