Heliconias are found in the tropical
regions
of the country, in the Amazon and Pacific coast right up to 2500m in the Andean
cloudforests. They are also commonly known as False
Bananas as they are related to them and have the same
large and broad leaf.
There are around thirty native species in the
country and many more are grown in
gardens for their beautiful and exotic looks.
