Colta is small lake located 20 km south of Riobamba at around 3000m. The people who live in nearby villages use the grasses,
called tortoras, which grow at the shore for feeding their animals
and for weaving straw carpets. This lake is also an important bird refuge with water fowl nesting in the reeds.
