This lake formed in a
volcanic caldera is located in the Western Cordilleras near Cotacachi town and
at the foot of
an extinct volcano of the same name.
It boasts of islands in the
lake, which are the remnants of lava domes
from its days of
volcanic activities.
The deep lake with a depth of 200m is three kilometers wide.
