El Corazon is an old eroded
volcano located between the Ilinizas and Atacazo in the Western
Cordillera. It is an easy peak of around 4700m to climb and used
for many as an ideal acclimatization hike. It is also one
of the few mountains which actually have a Spanish name. El
Corazon means The Heart and some people think it got its
name because of its fist-like or heart-like peak and others claim
that two gullies in the shape of the romantic heart symbol gave it
its name.
