Frailejones or Espeletia are only found in the high paramo ecosystem.
In Ecuador, the best region to see them, is in the high paramo region of
El
Angel, in
the northern part of the country,
where they grow on stems of up to 3 meters high and form a forest.
Their flowers remind people of the sunflower and their leaves are very hairy to insulate the plant against the cold of
the harsh climate.
