Baños is located at 1800m in the Pastaza valley and
is a small resort town of around 16 000 people,
popular with nationals and foreigners alike for its mild
climate, beautiful scenery and hot springs.
Its setting is spectacular as it is surrounded by steep
hills, rushing mountain rivers, many waterfalls and an active volcano,
which caused a complete evacuation of the population
for 3 months in 1999.
