Latacunga is the capital of Cotopaxi province
and is dominated by the majestic volcano of the same
name.
The town, however, paid in the past for its close proximity.
Lava flows reached the town but the most devastating
natural event
were earthquakes, which once
completely leveled the old town.
That's why few colonial buildings are still standing in the
center.
